SafeCall Program

Back to Violence Protection

You may be eligible for the use of a 911 cellular telephone through the SafeCall program. The phone will be provided for certain victims at no cost for an initial period of one month. Ongoing need will be evaluated after thirty (30) days.

You will be considered for a phone if you are within the guidelines below:

The victim shall:

  • be a resident of Manatee County
  • be a victim of domestic abuse, stalking or violation of a protective order
  • not be living with the perpetrator
  • be considered to be in imminent danger
  • receive appropriate referral information
  • have a current injunction for protection

Other considerations:

  • recent separation from perpetrator
  • whether children are involved in the abuse
  • whether the perpetrator has a history of violence
  • whether the victim has been hospitalized or treated for injuries as a result of a battery
  • whether the victim has been battered while pregnant
  • whether the victim's abuser is incarcerated, about to be released, and/or has made threats from jail
  • perpetrator has drug and/or alcohol issues and/or is non-compliant with prescription medication
  • perpetrator has a past history of mental illness

If you feel you qualify for a phone under these guidelines, you need to apply at the Violence Protection Division. Phones are distributed by the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
