First, you must have physical custody of a child
who has been deprived of the support of one or more of their parents.
In other words, there must be at least one parent who is absent
from the home. The Child Support Enforcement Office of the Manatee
County Clerk of the Circuit Court offers a full range of child
support services, which include:
- Location of the non-custodial parent when his or her whereabouts
are unknown;
- Establishment of paternity when a child is born out of wedlock,
including genetic testing, if necessary;
- Enforcement of court ordered support obligations including,
but not limited to, court actions, income deduction from wages,
suspension of driver's and business licenses, reporting of child
support debt to credit bureaus, and intercept of IRS tax refunds,
unemployment compensation benefits and lottery winnings; and
- Modifications of child support amount.
Additionally, if you are a custodial parent who has been served
with court papers for a divorce and you cannot afford an attorney,
we may be able to represent you on the issue of child support if
you contact us immediately after being served. We are not able to
assist with custody or visitation issues. There are pro-se
(self-help) forms available for purchase at the Courthouse to
assist you in filing an action on your own behalf if you do not
have an attorney to assist you.
We can provide these services even if the non-custodial
parent lives in another state and even many foreign countries.
